Texas Peach Tea
Posted: May 26, 2009 by Jill McKeever

When you have tart peaches, make Iced Peach Tea!
I picked a peck of peaches…no, not really. I picked up a quart of Texas Peaches from the Main Street Farmers’ Market and discovered they were a little tart after I got them home. I was too impatient to wait for them to ripen so I got the idea to let them soak in a batch of tea.
That was a thirst quenching idea that I can do over and over again.
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO
Makes one quart
- 4 cups boiling water
- 3 to 5 (2g) tea bags, tied together
- 3 to 5 small peaches, seeds removed, cut into slices
Drop the peach slices into a medium size container, add tea bags, then pour in boiling water. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Strain tea into serving pitcher. Discard peaches and tied tea bags. Sweeten tea to taste THEN chill.
Totally refreshing!

Oh man! I sure hope there’s some left when I get home
*gulp, gulp, gulp* What’s that Dear?
You two are a riot. And the Peach tea sounds really good. Will definitely give it a try, especially after my first visit to Farmer’s Market. That hopefully will be around the first week in July. Do you have Lemon Balm or Lemon Grass in your garden? We make a tea…..about 6 cups of water, a handful of Lemon Balm (give em a good twist), about 6 stalks of Lemon Grass (bend em in a couple places), and 4 (about 1/4 in slices of Ginger) let simmer for 20-30 minutes, then add 1 tsp. black or green tea (3-5 minutes). I use my ice tea maker pitcher filled 1/2 the way with ice, pour tea on, then add just a little water. Also, Sandra just went in to become a Fan of the Farmer’s Market. Susan
Susan, I can’t wait for you & Sandra to get here, too. And your Lemon Tea sounds WONDERFUL! I’ll find out if our farmers’ market plant merchants have Lemon Balm and Lemon Grass. Sounds like a refreshing Savor the Flavors Recipe demonstration to me.
Well, yes, anything herbal would make a great demonstration. I have an awesomely easy recipe for mint chocolate chip cookies (uses chocolate mint or regular mint and a sugar cookie mix). Cream cheese with herbs (we had that at lunch with cheese bread from the Artisan Bread book), and just plain old pinwheels, tortillas with cheese and herbs rolled up and sliced are always a quick and great hit, and then of course, pesto….basil, parsley lemon balm, to name a few. I probably have quite a few more recipes….so we’ll just have to get together sometime for a cup of tea and talk. Oh, but let me tell you….I have terrible stage fright. I am a wanna be country guitar player, Sandra says I am pretty good, but I can hardly stand the thought of getting on stage (usually takes 2 margaritas then even I don’t care! And it is especially good if my audience has had a couple, also!). So Sandra and the dog are my biggest fans. I do hope to be able to get involved with the Farmer’s Market someday, our new place is in Saltillo which doesn’t seem to be very far from Sulphur Springs. So who knows what the future holds, only good stuff I am sure. Oh, and your little Miss Texas sure is cute and quite talented. I am sure she already knows how to bring about world peace…..just such a shame we cannot remember it when we are adults. Susan
I can’t wait for us to share a cup of tea and talk, too, or margaritas. I like guitars. Hey! Guess what? We working on having street musicians at market! I’m so stoked!!!!
Since you get stage fright, you can pass those herb recipes my way, and I’ll do the cooking demos for the both of us.
That would not be any fun! But, I will certainly share my recipes. And who knows maybe I will overcome my stage fright, cook with you, play my guitar and sing. I imagine the folks of Sulphur Springs are very hospitable and nice. They are Texans after all. Ya never know it might be our claim to fame or at least our 15 minutes of glory! Never can tell.
How many times can we get our 15 minutes of fame?
Well, (laughing) hmmm, as many times as we can. Susan
